The Musical Side of Lyric Writing is a 3-week SongTown CrashCourse taught by multi #1 songwriter Clay Mills.
Words aren’t just ideas. They’re ideas and sound. Every line you write is made of vowels that stretch and resonate, consonants that click and drive, and syllables that either land with the melody or fight it. When you learn to hear that, your lyrics stop sitting on the page and start singing off of it.
Over three weeks, you’ll learn to treat your words as musical material — to make lines flow, to build sound patterns that hook a listener, and to choose vowels and consonants a singer can actually sing. You’ll pick up a diagnostic you’ll use forever (“does this line scan?”), a repeatable musicality pass, and a method for writing lyrics to an existing melody.
Whether you write country, pop, sync, Americana, worship, singer-songwriter, or any other style, this CrashCourse gives you practical tools you can use immediately on new songs and on songs you’ve already written. All levels welcome — no music theory required.
